Trump’s 15-Point Iran Peace Plan Explained

Donald Trump has reportedly proposed a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran, nearly a month after hostilities escalated between Washington—backed by Israel—and Tehran. The development comes as the US military is said to be preparing the deployment of around 1,000 additional troops to West Asia.

According to reports, the proposal was conveyed to Tehran through intermediaries in Pakistan, which has offered to facilitate talks between the two sides. Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, has reportedly emerged as a key intermediary, officials told The New York Times.

Key elements of the ceasefire plan

While the full proposal has not been made public, officials say it primarily targets Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programmes. Since the conflict began, the US and Israel have focused strikes on Iran’s missile systems and key infrastructure, though Tehran has continued launching attacks on Israel and nearby Gulf states.

The plan also addresses global energy concerns, particularly the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital route for oil shipments—which has disrupted supply and driven up prices.

According to reports, the proposed terms include:

  • A one-month ceasefire to negotiate a broader agreement
  • Ending Iran’s nuclear weapons capability
  • Halting uranium enrichment within Iran
  • Reopening the Strait of Hormuz
  • Transferring enriched uranium stockpiles to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
  • Dismantling key nuclear facilities at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo with full IAEA access
  • Ending involvement in regional proxy conflicts
  • Ceasing support to allied armed groups
  • Imposing limits on missile range and numbers
  • Restricting missile use strictly to self-defence

What the US is offering

In return, Washington has reportedly offered:

  • Complete lifting of sanctions on Iran
  • Support for Iran’s civilian nuclear programme, including operations at the Bushehr plant
  • Removal of the “snapback” sanctions mechanism

Iran’s response

Iranian officials have responded sharply. Lt Col Ebrahim Zolfaghari said Trump appeared to be “negotiating with himself,” dismissing the proposal and criticizing US intentions.

Meanwhile, senior commander Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi stated that the conflict would continue until “complete victory,” countering claims that Iran is seeking peace.

Iran’s reported conditions

Despite the strong rhetoric, reports suggest Iran has outlined its own conditions for ending the war, including:

  • Immediate cessation of hostilities with the US
  • Guarantees against future US military action
  • Financial compensation for war-related damages
  • Formal control over the Strait of Hormuz
  • No restrictions on its ballistic missile programme, which it considers essential for defence
