Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday asserted that the organisation does not engage in Hindutva politics but is committed to nation-building through individual development.
Speaking at an event marking 100 years of the RSS, Bhagwat said the Sangh’s primary objective is to shape strong individuals, as they form the foundation of a strong society and nation. He stressed that the true nature of the RSS cannot be understood merely from an external perspective.
“Some view the Sangh as a paramilitary organisation, others see it as a service-oriented body. But it is a social force that works beyond such classifications,” he said while addressing the theme ‘Sangh Yatra – New Horizons, New Dimensions’.
Bhagwat noted that there is growing global expectation for India to assume a leadership role once again. He urged people to strengthen society and the nation by actively participating in the Sangh’s initiatives.
Clarifying his definition of Hindu identity, he said that those who work towards unity are Hindus and underlined the importance of devotion to the motherland. “The world recognises power more than truth. Therefore, acquiring power is necessary, but it must be exercised with restraint,” he said.
On women’s representation, Bhagwat stated that women are fully independent and should have 50% participation in governance rather than being restricted to 33%.
He also highlighted the need for coordinated policies and greater local community involvement to protect rivers and the environment in Uttarakhand.
