CM Gupta Engages Delhi Youth Ahead of National Youth Day
New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday hosted an interactive “Lunch Pe Charcha” session with Delhi’s youth ahead of National Youth Day on Monday. The programme provided a platform for young participants to share their ideas and aspirations, discuss city development, and review the government’s achievements over the past 11 months.
CM Gupta emphasized the significance of January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, as a symbol of youth energy and ideas. “In the same spirit, I urge young people to engage in continuous dialogue and actively contribute through suggestions, complaints, and solutions to make Delhi and the country better. Active youth participation is vital for Delhi’s development,” she said.
Around 30 young participants took part in the session. Prafful Garg raised concerns about Delhi’s garbage management challenges, particularly at Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla. The CM highlighted that under her Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, the city’s bio-mining capacity has increased from 10,000 to 30,000 metric tonnes per day through drone surveys, stricter deadlines, and expanded machinery. She added that the government aims to completely eliminate two major garbage mountains by the end of 2026.
Several social media content creators and activists also attended, urging the CM to hold more such programmes to involve youth in policy formulation and implementation.
Another participant, Harteerath Singh Ahluwalia, raised questions on street dogs and animal welfare. CM Gupta responded that all actions are aligned with Supreme Court guidelines and stressed that the government does not condone cruelty towards animals. She noted that 17 veterinary hospitals have been revitalized, staff and facilities enhanced, and partnerships with NGOs established for sterilization and vaccination, promoting harmony between animals and society.
Addressing civic responsibility, CM Gupta said that responsible behavior is nurtured from childhood. “To instill a sense of duty towards the nation, society, and public property, the Delhi government has introduced new modules such as ‘Science of Living’ and ‘Rashtraneeti’ in school curricula,” she added.
