Narendra Modi has crossed the landmark of 100 million followers on Instagram, becoming the first politician and world leader to achieve the milestone. The achievement places him far ahead of Donald Trump, who currently has 43.2 million followers and ranks second among major global leaders on the platform. Trump largely uses his own social media platform, Truth Social, for official statements and communication.
Among international leaders, Modi’s follower count is more than double that of Trump and even exceeds the combined following of several other prominent heads of state. These include Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto (15 million), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (14.4 million), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (11.6 million), and Argentine President Javier Milei (6.4 million).
Modi’s Instagram journey began in 2014, and over the past decade, his account has evolved into one of the most engaging digital platforms among global leaders, according to a report by Press Trust of India citing officials.
Within India, Modi leads by a wide margin. He is followed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with 16 million followers, while Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has 12.6 million followers.
On the popularity front, data from Statista shows that Modi held a 70 per cent approval rating as of December 2025, the highest among global leaders. He was followed by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at 63 per cent and Argentina’s Javier Milei at 60 per cent. Trump ranked 11th on the index with a 43 per cent approval rating.
Separately, a survey by US-based business intelligence firm Morning Consult placed Modi at the top with a 67 per cent approval rating, based on data collected between February 2 and February 8, 2026.
