The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly unhappy with Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani after he pulled out of the Pakistan Super League at the last minute to join the Indian Premier League. The tall pacer was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday and will represent the three-time champions in the upcoming 19th edition of the tournament, which begins on March 28. Earlier, Muzarabani had been picked by Islamabad United for PKR 11 million, but he opted for the IPL opportunity after being approached by the Indian franchise.
According to a report by Geo Super, the PCB is now considering legal action against the 29-year-old pacer. Muzarabani had previously been announced as Islamabad United’s replacement for Shamar Joseph.
This marks the second straight year that a player contracted in the PSL has chosen to join an IPL team while both leagues run at the same time. Last season, South African pacer Corbin Bosch followed a similar path. Initially picked as a Diamond category player by Peshawar Zalmi, he later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement.
Muzarabani recently impressed at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he finished as Zimbabwe’s standout performer. The pacer took 13 wickets in six matches, ending as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. His performance helped Zimbabwe top Group B and qualify for the Super 8 stage.
One of his most notable performances came against Australia national cricket team, where he claimed four wickets and helped the Sikandar Raza-led side secure a convincing win during the group stage.
Meanwhile, the new season of the PSL will begin on March 26, just two days before the IPL starts. The expanded eight-team tournament will run for over a month, with the final scheduled for May 3.
The IPL final, on the other hand, will take place on May 31. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has so far announced the schedule for the first 16 days of the competition, with the remaining fixtures to be confirmed after election dates are announced in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam.
The IPL 2026 season will kick off on March 26 with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match. Kolkata Knight Riders will start their campaign the following day against five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
