Trump Invites PM Modi to Join ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza, Calls It a ‘Bold Approach’ for Lasting Peace

India is among the countries the United States has approached to join the newly proposed ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Sunday shared a letter from former President Donald Trump addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inviting him to be part of the initiative.

Trump described the board as part of the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, aimed at ending the long-standing conflict. In his letter, Trump wrote:

“It is my Great Honor to invite you, as Prime Minister of the Republic of India, to join me in a critically Historic and Magnificent effort to solidify Peace in the Middle East and, at the same time, to embark on a bold new approach to resolving Global Conflict!”

He referenced his administration’s earlier 20-point plan for Gaza and described the board as “the most impressive and consequential,” bringing together nations committed to lasting peace.

“We will convene our wonderful and committed partners, most of whom are Highly Respected World Leaders, in the near future,” Trump added.

If India accepts the invitation, it would serve a three-year term on the board. Reports suggesting a $1 billion contribution secures a permanent seat were dismissed by the White House as “misleading.”

The Board of Peace will monitor developments in Gaza under the second phase of Trump’s ceasefire proposal. Apart from India, invited countries include Hungary, Australia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Jordan, Greece, Cyprus, Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay, Argentina, and Albania. According to the AP, Hungary and Vietnam have accepted the invite, while India’s participation has not been officially confirmed.

Trump’s letter comes amid ongoing US-India trade negotiations, which have gained prominence following the US decision to impose a 50% tariff on India over its oil trade with Russia.
