Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav recently found himself in legal trouble after surrendering in connection with a ₹9 crore cheque bounce and debt case. He was subsequently sent to Tihar Jail. Before turning himself in, the actor shared an emotional statement, revealing the financial distress he had been facing and how isolated he felt during the crisis.
Soon after, several public figures stepped forward to offer support. Actor Sonu Sood extended a helping hand by offering Rajpal a role in an upcoming film along with a signing amount. Among others who came forward was music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh.
Rao Inderjeet Singh Extends Support
On Tuesday, Rao Inderjeet Singh shared a video on Instagram expressing concern over Rajpal Yadav’s financial condition. He said he had spoken to the actor’s younger brother and appealed to the public to contribute whatever they could to support the family.
In the video, Inderjeet shared Rajpal Yadav’s bank account details and stated that if the required funds were not collected by February 14, he would personally deposit the remaining amount in court. He expressed hope that the actor could secure relief by Maha Shivratri.
In his caption, Inderjeet wrote that learning about Rajpal’s situation through social media deeply saddened him. He described Rajpal as not only a talented artist but also a genuine and kind-hearted person. On behalf of his company, Gem Tunes, he announced legal aid of ₹1.11 crore and urged people across the country to support the actor’s family during this difficult period.
Who Is Rao Inderjeet Singh?
Rao Inderjeet Singh is a music producer and the founder of the music label Gem Tunes, established in 2006. The label has produced and promoted several popular Haryanvi and Punjabi songs.
Gem Tunes operates multiple YouTube channels across genres including Haryanvi, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Bhakti, and Ghazals. Its Haryanvi channel has over four million subscribers, while its Punjabi channel has more than three million followers.
The company has also ventured into original digital content, launching the YouTube series Stone Paper Scissor featuring content creator Shreya Kalra. Additionally, Shehbaz Badesha, known from Bigg Boss 19 and brother of Shehnaaz Gill, made his singing debut with Fame Dekh under the Gem Tunes banner. Punjabi singer Akhil’s popular track Supne has also been backed by the label.
Others Who Have Offered Help
Apart from Rao Inderjeet Singh and Sonu Sood, several others have pledged support. Politician Tej Pratap Yadav announced financial assistance of ₹11 lakh, while Kamal R Khan pledged ₹10 lakh. Reports suggest that Rajpal Yadav has raised approximately ₹1.32 crore so far, excluding Sonu Sood’s undisclosed contribution.
Background of the ₹9 Crore Case
The legal battle dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata (2012). After the film failed at the box office, he was unable to repay the loan, leading to prolonged legal proceedings.
In April 2018, a court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife, Radha Yadav, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act after seven cheques issued to the complainant bounced. He was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment, and the verdict was upheld by a sessions court in early 2019.
In June 2024, the Delhi High Court temporarily suspended his sentence and directed him to make genuine efforts to clear the dues, which had escalated to nearly ₹9 crore. By October 2025, he had deposited ₹75 lakh, but the court observed that a substantial amount remained unpaid.
In February, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected his plea for additional time and ordered him to surrender. He was subsequently taken to Tihar Jail.
